The Alliance for US India Business (AUSIB) is proud to partner with the Global Fairness Initiative (GFI) to present the first Annual Fairness Award to Ms Ela Bhatt, founder of SEWA (the Self Employed Women’s Association of India). The award will be presented at the hands of Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, on Monday, Nov 15, 2010 at the Kenny Center Opera House.
Ela Bhatt is known as one of the world’s most remarkable pioneers and entrepreneurial forces in grassroots development. She founded SEWA in 1972, is the Founder Chair of the Cooperative Bank of SEWA and the Indian School of Micro-Finance for Women. Sanjay Puri, Chairman of AUSIB, congratulated Ms, Ela Bhatt and said, “Ela Bhatt’s contribution to improving the lives of the poorest in India is exemplary. She embodies GIF’s mission to find equitable and sustainable approaches to economic development for the world’s poor. It is only apt that it should be presented to her and at the hands of one most prominent women leader of our times, Hillary Clinton.”
The event is being hosted by GFI in partnership with the Prince of Wales Foundation and NBC Universal along with AUSIB. A documentary on global issues, Harmony, will also be shown during the event. Harmony is a film by Stuart Sender and Julie Bergman Sender.
